You Missed That Part?

Have you ever missed one important detail and it changed everything? Maybe you got an email, skimmed through it real quick, saw the part you wanted to see, and missed the one sentence that said, “Please respond by 5:00 PM.” Now it is 5:37, and suddenly your spirit is no longer at peace. Or maybe you bought something that said “some assembly required.” But you ignored that little sentence because you were feeling confident. You opened the box, pulled out all the pieces, saw forty-seven screws, three brackets, two mystery parts, and a booklet that looked like it was written by someone who personally wanted to test your patience. But you still said, “I got it.” Two hours later, the shelf is leaning, one drawer will not close, and you have extra screws sitting on the floor like they are waiting to testify against you.

That is when somebody could walk in, look at the instructions, look at the project, and lovingly ask, “You missed that part?” That got me thinking about Hosea 4:6. A lot of people know the first part of that verse. Hosea 4:6 (NIV) says, “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” That part gets quoted often, and it should get our attention. Lack of knowledge can be dangerous. What we do not know can affect how we live, how we decide, how we respond, and how we walk with the Heavenly Father. But we cannot stop there. Because the verse continues and shows that the issue was not just that God’s people lacked knowledge. The issue was that they had rejected knowledge. They had ignored the law of God. They had missed, skipped, refused, or pushed away what the Heavenly Father had already made known.

In other words, this was not just about what they did not know. It was about what they refused to receive. That is where this verse starts stepping on toes. Because sometimes our problem is not that God has not spoken. Sometimes our problem is that we did not want to hear that part.

We wanted the promise, but not the correction.

We wanted the blessing, but not the instruction.

We wanted the comfort, but not the conviction.

We wanted the peace, but not the obedience.

We wanted the “God will make a way” part, but skipped over the “submit your way to God” part. And if we are honest, we have all had moments where we treated God’s Word like we were skimming an email. We saw what encouraged us, highlighted what made us feel good, and quietly moved past the part that challenged our attitude, our habits, our priorities, our relationships, or our decisions. Then when things started leaning sideways, we wondered

And sometimes the answer is simple: We missed that part. Now, this is not about shame. The Heavenly Father does not reveal what we missed so He can embarrass us. He reveals it because He loves us. His Word is not just information. It is protection. It is wisdom. It is correction. It is direction. It is life. The Word of God helps us see what we would miss on our own. It shows us where pride is hiding. It shows us where fear has been leading. It shows us where bitterness has been growing. It shows us where we have been trying to build without following the instructions. And the truth is, some destruction does not come from what we never knew. It comes from what we refused to receive. That is why knowledge of God matters. Not just information about God. Not just Bible facts. Not just being able to quote a verse. But truly knowing His Word, receiving His correction, and allowing His truth to shape how we live.

Because if we reject God’s instruction, we should not be surprised when life becomes unstable. If we ignore His wisdom, we should not be shocked when our choices produce pain. If we push away His truth, we cannot blame Him when the thing we built starts wobbling. The Heavenly Father gives us His Word because He wants us to live. He does not instruct us to ruin our fun. He instructs us to guard our future. He does not correct us because He is against us. He corrects us because He sees what we cannot see. He does not call us back to truth because He wants to control us. He calls us back because He loves us too much to let us be destroyed by what we refused to learn.

So today, maybe the question is not, “Lord, why is this happening?” Maybe the question is, “Lord, what have I missed?” What instruction have I skipped? What wisdom have I ignored? What truth have I rejected because it was uncomfortable? What part of Your Word have I read around instead of receiving? That kind of question requires humility. But humility is where growth begins. The good news is that the Heavenly Father is gracious. If we missed it, He can teach us. If we ignored it, He can correct us. If we wandered from it, He can lead us back. But we have to be willing to listen. We have to be willing to receive. We have to be willing to let His Word show us the part we missed. Because the manual was not hidden. The truth was not missing. The Heavenly Father has spoken. And His Word still leads us into life.

Reflect on an area of your life where you may have been moving forward without fully receiving the Heavenly Father’s instruction. Consider whether there is a truth, correction, or piece of wisdom from His Word that you may have skipped, ignored, or resisted. Invite Lord Jesus to be your teacher in that area. Ask Him to help you receive the truth with humility, follow the Father’s instruction with obedience, and trust that His correction is meant to lead you into life. Sometimes the issue is not that God has not spoken. Sometimes we just missed that part.
