I was in class a couple of days ago when one of the teachers shared a profound story. I found it truly unique. Initially, he posed a question: “What does a squirrel do when it sees someone?” We all responded that it runs up a tree. Then, he recounted his safari experience in Africa. He had witnessed a female lion who had just finished hunting. If you know what I mean. When they approached her, she remained motionless. He described how the lion simply stared at them while they were in their vehicles. Eventually, the lion stopped staring and lay down. Remarkably, they never left their vehicles.
There’s a stark contrast between these two animals. One is the king of the jungle, while the other is a fleeing tree branch running. Now, let’s delve into the heart, the center of our spirit. You might wonder, “What does a lion and a squirrel have to do with our heart?” Well, it depends on how you perceive yourself. Who are you in your heart—the lion or the squirrel? The portrayal of the lion and the squirrel is a delicate one, and I’ll share that with you in a moment. But let’s begin by examining scripture to provide an immediate starting point:
Proverbs 28:1 (NIV) The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
Are you beginning to understand the earlier question: who are you in your heart, a squirrel or a lion? When it comes to your convictions in following Lord Jesus, do you cower like the squirrel fleeing from danger, or do you stand tall like the lion, confident in your identity? This is a heart test to determine your steadfastness in the Lord. We will all face challenges to our convictions, whether directly or indirectly. Your response reveals your true nature. If you waver in the face of someone presenting a well-crafted argument against Lord Jesus, it reflects the strength of your initial convictions.
As I conclude, this wasn’t a personal challenge, but a warning. People are turning away from the Heavenly Father in large numbers due to “formulated arguments.” This is just the beginning, and it will continue to escalate rapidly with the rise of social media. So, I ask you once more: do you want to be the squirrel that flees or the lion that claims its domain? Now you understand the distinction.
Next Step:
Reflect on how embracing righteousness and integrity empower you to approach situations with boldness and confidence.
God bless you, God keep you. God loves you and I love you too!
