That's a Nice Outfit!!! 

I know some true fashionistas. When I say they can dress, I mean they can dress. They know how to match colors, patterns, shoes, accessories—you name it. Somehow they can throw an outfit together that makes everybody else stop and say, "Now that's a nice outfit!"

Me? I'm a pretty simple guy. Give me a nice blazer, a crisp button-down or polo, a good pair of shoes, and every now and then a suit, and I'm a happy man. But then there are those people who take it to another level. They walk into a room with confidence. Everything matches. Everything fits. They've got style. As the older folks used to say, "Boy, you're casket sharp!" Now, I've never quite figured out whether that's supposed to be a compliment or a warning, but either way I'll take it. I guess!

But here's something I never expected to find in Scripture. Did you know the Bible talks about getting dressed? No, Isaiah isn't talking about Gucci, Louis Vuitton, or Armani. He's talking about something far greater. Listen to what he says:

"I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels."
Isaiah 61:10 (NIV)

Did you catch that? God is the One doing the dressing. He clothes us with garments of salvation and wraps us in a robe of righteousness. In other words, He gives us something we could never make for ourselves.

Think about it. No tailor on earth can stitch together salvation. No designer can sew righteousness. No clothing brand can manufacture grace. Only the Heavenly Father can do that.

And when He dresses you, people begin to notice. They may not know exactly what has changed, but they'll say things like, "There's something different about you." "You have a glow about you." "You carry yourself differently." They can't always explain it, but they're noticing the work of God in your life.

Now, before anybody comes after me, let me say this—I have nothing against Walmart or TJ Maxx. I've found some good deals there myself. But the garments God gives don't go out of style. They never wear out. They never fade. They never need replacing. They're not held together by thread. They're held together by His grace.

The beautiful thing about God's wardrobe is that He doesn't dress us to impress people. He dresses us to reflect Him. When He clothes us in righteousness, He's giving us a new identity. Not because we've earned it. Not because we've behaved perfectly. But because of what Christ has done for us.

Paul says it this way in Romans 4:24:

"...God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead."
Romans 4:24 (NIV)

That is the outfit worth wearing.

Every morning we spend time deciding what we're going to wear on the outside. We stand in front of the mirror, trying on shirts, jackets, dresses, shoes, making sure everything looks just right. But maybe we should spend just as much time thanking God for what He's already clothed us with on the inside. Because the best thing you'll ever wear isn't hanging in your closet. It's the righteousness your Heavenly Father has lovingly placed upon you.

So the next time someone compliments your outfit, smile and say thank you. But never forget that your finest garment isn't the one people can see. It's the one God has given you. And when the Heavenly Father clothes you in His righteousness, walk in it—not with pride or arrogance, but with the quiet confidence of someone who knows whose child they are.
