As a kid I used to like to throw rocks. I threw them so well that I hit this kid, who was older and bigger than me, in the head while he was playing football. Needless to say that dude was angry, and thankfully I have a big brother that was bigger than him. That was a fight that I missed, but the rock didn’t. I didn’t mean to hit him, I was a six year old who liked to throw rocks. I didn’t hide my hand though when I threw it. It truly was an accident. That day I found out that throwing rocks can hurt someone. Did I throw rocks again after that day? Yep! I can’t lie!
Rocks are defined as solid mineral materials that form part of the Earth’s surface and other similar planets. They are either exposed on the surface or beneath the soil or oceans. So, did I throw the Earth at that kid? Just kidding! But knowing the definition of a rock reminds me of the story of Hannah in 1st Samuel. Hannah, the wife of Elkanah, was unable to bear children. She was subjected to ridicule and mockery. In her desperation, she sought the Heavenly Father earnestly, and He answered her prayers. As a result, she bore a son named Samuel. Samuel, who I’m referring to, became one of the major prophets of the Bible. Hannah expressed her gratitude and praise to the Heavenly Father for this miraculous gift.
1 Samuel 2:2 (NIV) “There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
Hannah’s praise of the Heavenly Father for calling HIM the rock is crucial. The word “rock” holds significant meaning in the Bible, where it is mentioned over 500 times. Rock and stone, which represent vast masses of earth, symbolize strength. The phrase “solid as a rock” is commonly used to describe various things, such as finances, relationships, plans, and more. This term is defined as “something or someone that is extremely firm, dependable, stable, or physically hard.” The books of Samuel were written because of Hannah’s unwavering persistence in her prayer and her unwavering belief in the Heavenly Father.
In conclusion, we can gain valuable insights from Hannah’s story. Firstly, her unwavering praise for the Heavenly Father and her unwavering belief in Him are noteworthy. We serve a formidable God, an entity that remains steadfast, unyielding, and dependable. When we seek the presence of the Heavenly Father, He will undoubtedly respond. It is imperative that we prioritize the Heavenly Father in our lives, making Him as steadfast as a rock, surpassing all other aspects.
