This devotional will be different from my usual ones. The world is filled with so much that we can become overwhelmed. While reviewing some old notes, I came across a passage from a time ago that I’d like to share. In the book of Romans, Paul implores Christians to dedicate their entire lives to God, emphasizing that God sacrificed everything for them. Jesus gave up HIS life so that we could experience His boundless love and grace. If we refuse to align our lives with the way Jesus lived, we risk diminishing the value of His gifts.
We dedicate our lives to God by making Him our ultimate pursuit. Here are five practical steps you can take right now to prioritize God in your life.
Give thanks
Psalms 75:1 ESV “We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds.”
Take a moment right now to express gratitude to God for the blessings He has already bestowed upon you. Reflect on His unwavering faithfulness and recount the stories you have witnessed and heard of His incredible power.
Spend 5 minutes in silence
John 15:4 ESV “Abide in me, and I in you.”
Abiding in Jesus begins with stillness. So, right now, pause, take a deep breath, and surrender anything that concerns you to God. Spend 5 minutes focusing your heart on the most important person in your life.
Remember Whose you are
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.”
God loves you unconditionally. The price He paid for your salvation was an immense sacrifice, costing HIM everything. So, take a moment to remind yourself of your divine heritage and reflect on the loving words God has spoken about you.
Meditate on God’s Word
Psalms 119:97 ESV “Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.”
One of the most effective ways to discover Jesus’s desires for your life is by dedicating time to studying Scripture. As you engage with the Word, seek God’s guidance and insight into His will for you.
Focus on what is excellent
Philippians 4:8 ESV “…If there is any excellence … think about these things.”
You’ve been given the mind of Christ. If you’re uncertain about your thoughts, consider asking yourself: What is praiseworthy? What thoughts and actions would honor God?
Next step:
Make a list of whatever comes to mind and pursue those things. By consistently practicing these steps daily, you can develop habits that will enable you to pursue intimacy with God every day and prioritize Him above all else.
God bless you, God keep you. God loves you and I love you too!
