Today’s world moves at lightning speed. If you can calculate the speed of light, you’re incredibly smart. Everything we use in our daily lives, from cars to phones to televisions, moves incredibly fast. We now have 100-inch screen TVs, and our cell phones have a refresh rate, which is the number of times our phones update the display. The average phone refreshes at 60 Hz per second, meaning the display has refreshed 60 times within a second. Now imagine our large screen TVs with an average refresh rate of 120 Hz per second. All these refresh rates contribute to the development of bigger and brighter displays for our enjoyment.
I’m doing my best to explain the fascinating and advanced aspects of technology. Technological advancements are happening at an unprecedented pace. There’s a new app released every second, and some type of groundbreaking technology is constantly emerging. What was once the norm is no longer the case. That’s how fast technology is moving, and we all want and now depend on it. This isn’t a criticism of technology; it’s more of a reminder to be mindful of our reliance on it. I say this because while I was in prayer, the Holy Spirit gave me Proverbs 2:11, which says:
Proverbs 2:11 (NIV) Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
I meditated on this for quite some time, and I couldn’t understand why the Holy Spirit would give me this to study and understand. Well, Friday I received my answer. We consume most of our information today by a technology device. We spend so much face time in our devices receiving information. Just imagine when you pick up your phone to look at a video within 1 second a pulsing light that you don’t see has pulsated 60 times. So, with this amount of light and what you’re viewing, it can become hypnotic. If you're an iPhone user like me, you receive a screen time report. I often have to drop my head in shame with the amount of screen time that I sometimes consume. This is not a sweeping indictment of anyone because as you can see I would be included.
What I’m stressing is that we receive so much information at such a fast pace, in every part of our lives, sometimes we can become overly consumed. And we become only consumed with the things of this world, sometimes we can’t tell what’s true or not. Information is coming at us from everywhere, and everyone believes that they are right, and they have the key to unlock life's pleasures. Lord Jesus during the sermon on the mount gave nothing golden nuggets of life to us. Lord Jesus said this:
Matthew 6:22-23 (NIV) 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
I would delve into the profound meaning behind Lord Jesus’ words, but that will be your homework. Before I conclude, I want to emphasize that I have provided you with the knowledge of how we obtain information today. Now, it is your responsibility to discern the truth from the falsehood. While the time may change, the Heavenly Father remains constant.
Next step:
What steps can you take to seek greater wisdom and understanding in your daily life? How can you develop habits that enhance your discernment?
God bless you, God keep you. God loves you and I love you too!
