While I commute to work daily, I usually listen to inspirational gospel or a podcast. One Sunday, I discovered a new song that resonated with me deeply. Let me share my process when I find a new song that inspires me. I listen to it on repeat every day, all day long. As I drove to work on Tuesday, the lyrics of the song brought tears to my eyes. The encouragement in the song speaks to a universal human experience when we find solace and redemption in the presence of the Heavenly Father.
Now, let me introduce you to the song that had this 43-year-old man in tears on my way to work. It’s called “God I’m Just Grateful” performed by Elevation Worship and Chandler Moore. Let’s delve into some of the lyrics that encapsulate the love of the Heavenly Father:
Holy holy, there’s only one
I give you glory for all the you’ve done
Even though I don’t deserve it
You did it
Even though I couldn’t earn it
You did it
Who am I that you keep me on
Your mind
God I’m just grateful for you
God I’m just grateful for you
All my life you’ve been right there by
My side
God I’m just grateful for you
God I’m just grateful for you
If you’re nodding your head right now, it’s not my fault; good music has a way of doing that.
However, I must admit that reading the lyrics reminded me of John 10:28-29:
John 10:28-29 (NLT) 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, 29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.
In this part of the passage, Lord Jesus is engaged in a confrontation with some of the leaders of the Sanhedrin. If you’re familiar with the Pharisees and Sadducees, you know they were a hot-headed and stubborn bunch. When Lord Jesus offered them a chance to reconcile, they refused and even picked up stones to throw at him. Despite the threat of stoning, Lord Jesus’s love for us remained unwavering.
How can we be confident that the Heavenly Father will never allow anyone or anything to take us away from His loving embrace? As the lyric goes, “Who am I that you keep me on your mind?” Isaiah 43:4 affirms that we are precious to the Heavenly Father. He traded the lives of others for ours because we are honored and loved. Lord Jesus demonstrated this love even under threat. When faced with danger, he thought of us and assured HIS opponents that we would not be “snatched” from HIS hands.
As I conclude, let us be grateful for the presence of God amidst the danger. These lyrics don’t even begin to express the love of the Heavenly Father, but they should undoubtedly remind us of how much HE cares for us. We can’t earn or deserve the amount of time and attention the Heavenly Father gives us. He has you on HIS mind and in HIS hands.
Next Step:
Take a moment to reflect on whether there are any aspects of your life where you’re shielding yourself instead of trusting the ONE who holds you.
God bless you, God keep you. God loves you and I love you too!
